When I first started writing this research essay, my purpose was to research the quality of education that Japanese Canadian students were receiving in B.C from 1940-1950. However, once I began getting deeper into my research I realized that education inherently shaped cultural identity for the Japanese Canadian students. This research essay helped me develop my research skills because I was able to go beyond what I initially thought my research was going to be. That enabled me to dig deeper and expand my topic, as well as gain a greater understanding of the history of my topic.
